Julian Owens, PhD, MPH

Julian  Owens is Co-Founder and CEO at LIFE 20/20. Dr. Owens is responsible for developing and implementing corporate strategy, policies, and procedures at the firm. He is also responsible for overseeing day to day operations, which includes assuring high-quality contract performance, continuous corporate growth, and ensuring superior customer satisfaction. Dr. Owens chairs the Executive Leadership Team and co-directs the Behavioral Health Services Division. He crafts LIFE 20/20’s unique business model which reflects principals of public health, social entrepreneurship and social justice; he conveys this model externally to business and community stakeholders.

Dr. Owens is also Adjunct Professor and has taught or given lectures at Colleges and Universities in the United States and Caribbean, including Schools of Education, Medicine, Music, and Public Health. He has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications about adolescence and developmental behavioral health highlighting in depth knowledge of implementation science and evaluation research. Dr. Owens presents regularly on culturally relevant uses of music and media to improve teaching and learning outcomes, especially among vulnerable populations in high needs, low resourced schools and communities. Dr. Owens presents at academic conferences, and national, regional and local community forums, domestically and internationally.

Dr. Owens earned a Bachelor of Arts [BA] in Psychology from Morehouse College, a Master of Public Health [MPH] in Health Policy and Management from The University of Michigan, and Doctor of Philosophy [PhD] in Teaching and Learning, with advanced training in Health Promotion, Education and Behavior, from the University of South Carolina. He also has a certificate in Drug and Addiction Studies from the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Owens completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Adolescent Mental Health at the Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health, in the Department of Mental Health, with concurrent research appointments in the Center for Adolescent Health and Center for Youth Violence Prevention. Dr. Owens received a T-32 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH] for advanced training, as well.
