LEVEL 1+
Read “text” closely to determine what it says explicitly, literally and figuratively.
Make logical inferences based on the text and context.
Cite specific textual evidence when to support conclusions drawn from the text.
LEVEL 2 +
Participants will be able to:
Determine central ideas or themes of a text to analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
Identify potential biases that may influence perceptions and interpretations of the text.
Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including determining technical, connotative, and figurative meanings, and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning, tone, interpretations, and perceptions.
LEVEL 3 +
Participants will be able to:
Analyze the structure of a text, including how specific sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of written, visual, spoken or recorded “texts” relate to each other and the whole.
Assess how point of view or author’s/creator’s purpose(s) shape the content and style of the text and chosen medium of communication.
LEVEL 4 [Grade 11 & 12]
Participants will be able to:
Evaluate author’s point of view, reasoning, and use of evidence, rhetoric and stereotypes to convey perspective.
